This guy imprinted on humans instead of on other owls
so instead of growing up and hooting
he still uses the "food begging" call
when his keeper talks to him.
We met Errol at the Zoo today.

hung out to dry
what are you doing?!
there is still a dryer upstairs isn't there?
it isn't broken, is it?
kind of old fashioned don't you think?
you don't expect me to carry that stuff up and down those stairs do you?!
Hey, my clothes smell GOOD!?
um, can you hang my next load of laundry out on clothesline too?
(the questions my kids asked when I started using the new clothesline in the backyard)

unwanted
there are beautiful golden orange squash blossoms
and one breath taking sky blue bowl of a morning glory
in my yard today
but this horde of plant suckers
feasting on my honeysuckle
has drawn my attention and my wrath
I shall slaughter them with soap

dappled crabs
in a week away
our tiny, green crab apples
changed
not that much bigger
but definitely
no longer green
(I noticed them as I was out in the backyard this morning, rinsing out the coolers as part of the "after camping" chores. Sleeping bags are hung on the line in the sun and the washing machine is toiling away and I suspect, it will be for the rest of the .)

Jupiter glittering (Aug 22)
sure the red lights of the cellphone tower are distracting
even out in an almost wilderness campground
but Jupiter outshines them

dream boat (aug 20)
a friend's little sailboat
waiting for the wind and for my husband,
who loves words like jib and sheet
and knows what they mean

the camping weather report (Aug 19)
dark and cold
often rainy
with brief sunny breaks
but spirits were not dampened
even when sleeping bags were

rescued (Aug 18)
might have drowned in the lake
but for my youngest daughter
fishing it out and letting it dry
on her finger
this damsel fly is no longer in distress
and is delicately wiping it's beautiful eye

wading in the pink (Aug 17)
first evening at the lake
looking through the ripples
for
tadpoles
minnows
water striders
pretty stones
and finding them all
and more
treasures for the bucket

fuzzy asterisk
quacamole and boursin and chips and wine
a shopping list from yesterday
that showed up unexpectedly
for some reason, that I am not even clear on,
it seems to work with this
picture of a crumpled looking poppy

CAUTION: Do Not Pull Plug!!
one month old is still new, to me
I held her a long time today
not mine but made me remember and
made me wistful too.

hide behind it
it is free at the fast food place
says so on the sign
free from me too
most of the time
polite
twist up the corners
put it on
take it off
the best ones though
come from within
not just on my lips
but in my eyes

a puffball!

she's right
I do

mr. golden sun
at the folk fest
there are so many people
that we mark our tarp
that square of blue where we sit
with this windsock
so our children can find us and
so we can find us
and I wish it were so easy
for me to find ME
all the time

almond joy
he picked up three or four from where I had tossed the on the grass
I was so astonished that he would or could fit that many in his mouth that I nearly forgot to try and take the pictures
and then he flew up the fence rail, looked back at me...shook his head and flew away.
(I had to play with conrast and sharpening and other things in iphoto)

beauty is where you find it
I love that someone took the time to push different flower seeds into the cracks of their unused back driveway.
Found during our meandering group bike ride tonight.

steel blue rising
And, he is seventeen...
Now, that must make us...what?
Not eighteen?
Is that true, already?
Vows, didn't we do that just yester....,
Er, no, no, it just feels like it -
So young then, weren't we?
And still are - even 18 years along
Ready for more?
Yes, I am.

limited seating
Thinking of my friend and running mentor,
- Princess Feet -
miles and mountains already behind her
she probably won't be sitting down for a while yet,
even with night falling
her head lamp is lighting the trail ahead
her feet finding the way
amazing
awe inspiring
running woman

dill explosion
scent is a memory trigger
brushing against dill
closing my eyes
breathing in
I can hear my Grandmother's voice
I am with her
and I say,
"I miss you!"
"I love you!"
and I see her smile.

Photo Quotes
When I ask to photograph someone, it is because I love the way they look and I think I make that clear. I'm paying them a tremendous compliment. What I'm saying is, I want to take you home with me and look at you for the rest of my life. - Amy Arbus
