monkey on her back

monkey on her back, originally uploaded by gawdessness.

Wednesdays mornings,
friends, the river and I all run together through the valley.
Laugh, push, rest, walk, trot and stop to smell roses.

We pass yards and houses and people with dogs and people without homes and other people who like us, are running.

Today there was this child, a tiny one, tucking themselves into the corner by a front door and we slowed, mothers all, to check with wary eye if they were as alone as they seemed.

We waited long enough to snap this picture.

No, the inside door was open and there was someone just there.

We could run on, and we did.

Poor child, looks sad. It makes me happy to think that there are people who will slow down to check, so many wouldn't.

Oh no, was she (he?) in the naughty corner?

What a great photo. There's so much emotion in looking at it, both as a bystander who wonders why this poor child is outside on his own and then from the mommy point of view which can pretty much empathize with the need to put children in a naughty corner whether indoors or out!

When I ask to photograph someone, it is because I love the way they look and I think I make that clear. I'm paying them a tremendous compliment. What I'm saying is, I want to take you home with me and look at you for the rest of my life.
