hung out to dry

hung out to dry, originally uploaded by gawdessness.

what are you doing?!
there is still a dryer upstairs isn't there?
it isn't broken, is it?
kind of old fashioned don't you think?
you don't expect me to carry that stuff up and down those stairs do you?!

Hey, my clothes smell GOOD!?
um, can you hang my next load of laundry out on clothesline too?

(the questions my kids asked when I started using the new clothesline in the backyard)

Oh, I love the smell of clothes that have been dried in the sun.

Me too, much nicer than having been in a drier. They feel nicer too I think.

I also love that smell and feel, but don't have the patience to do it very often:)

LOL I love the progression of comments.

At our old home a few years back, we didn't have a drier at all. Unfortunately, we also had very few days where we could hang clothes outside. Thankfully, we had a huge room where I could rig up some lines, but even with the dehumidifier going all day, it would take 3 days for them to dry in the summer (in the winter, they'd dry overnight).

Now, if we tried hanging them on the balcony, they'd come in dirtier than they started - or with cigarette burns from the butts people above us toss off their balconies. *sigh*

I grew up hanging clothes on the line. Now I wouldn't give up my dryer for anything, but I love this picture - it's so evocative and the colors are so rich!

When I ask to photograph someone, it is because I love the way they look and I think I make that clear. I'm paying them a tremendous compliment. What I'm saying is, I want to take you home with me and look at you for the rest of my life.
