on the window sill in my bedroom, sit some of the these glass insulators that I found at a garage sale.
They were used on telephone and power poles, way back when, or so I have been told.
I love coloured glass.
Okay, to be honest, I love just about anything that is shiny, bright, glittery and/or candy coloured.
More of them sit on the window ledge in the bathroom.
It seems to soften and tint the cool, north light a bit.
That must be why I like the blue and green hued ones best.
I have heard tell about purple ones and I would really like to find one of those too.

When I ask to photograph someone, it is because I love the way they look and I think I make that clear. I'm paying them a tremendous compliment. What I'm saying is, I want to take you home with me and look at you for the rest of my life. - Amy Arbus

these are beautiful! and actually, they're still used in some places. i'm a sucker for colored glass, too; blue is my fave. i'll bet these make some lovely colored patterns on the wall when the sun strikes them.
Wow I love these! You know I love colored glass (and anything shiny) just like you. I am going to start looking for some of these. It's nice to see evidence that someone made beauty for a practical purpose. I like to think of them doing their job in quiet loveliness.
Wow, I have never seen one up close. They are pretty :)
(I like shiny things too, we must all be part raccoon!) ;o)
Great pic. I love the old insulators. It's hard to find nice clean shiny ones like you have. Neat.
You don't find very many of those in anything other than clear and colourless. When the province decided to bury their lines where I grew up, we ended up with piles of them (and more than a few old hydro poles) on our farm as salvage, and none of them were coloured. One of my brothers *did* get some red ones, but I'm not entirely sure how/where he got them, and I wasn't about to question too closely! ;-D
I love the blue tint in yours. Blues are my favourite colours. I wonder what the different colours were used for?
A.
My grandmother used to collect those too, she loved how light looked coming through any piece of old glass. I remember purple, green, and reds ones too, but very few in comparision to the the clear and the blue. The photo of this cool glass in great too :)
beautiful!!!! you never know what joys you'll find where!!! :)
i have been hoping to get some blue colored bottles for my bedroom window too....we just hung blue and white curtains on the window this evening :)
oh, how pretty - and in such great condition. I haven't seen these in years - great collection.
What a cool thing to collect. I love colored glass to and have a few pieces. (Thanks for the photo idea!)
This color is so peaceful, in the light the way you captured it.
We've actually got some brown ones sitting out in our yard. I love these pretty ones, though!
